Big Twitter Announcement!

WE INTERRUPT YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED BLOG READING FOR:
Big NEWS!!

The blog has changed its Twitter name! We are no longer "Angelsdefendus". While we like that name a lot, and it will continue to be our email address, we have decided to "brand" ourselves with more continuity and change our Twitter name to...

Most of you wont have to change a thing... but this is to inform you of the change in case you see the name and think, "Who is that?" Well, actually it should be obvious that it is us, because that is sort of the point.

Twitter doesnt allow: "DefendUsInBattle" because they cap the amount of characters you can use at 15... so we had to go with this. Hopefully the new name isn't too cheesey... and gets the point across. It was either this, or  "DefendusNBattle" and that was even more confusing.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled blog reading.

Private Social Networking for Business

oGoing - Private Social Networks for Business

When a business uses public social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, MySpace, Plaxo, and social networking media services, it realizes many benefits: Promotion & marketing of business brand, finding new prospects, creating fan base, entering new markets, offering incentives & coupons, capturing customer feedback and defending the business brand!

What is Private Social Networking, and How can Private Social Networks help the Business?

Private Social Networks - PSNs provide the core features & functionality of Public Social Networks... Making new connections, creating & sharing of profiles, sharing of information, ideas & feedback, collaboration, learning & networking, and promoting the business brand. However there is one significant difference: PSNs are completely private; meaning, only the business & its users have access to private social networking and the exclusive business community!

oGoing - Private Social Networks for Business

Five Benefits of PSNs - Private Social Networks: This is the way to go!

1. Deeper Relationships - PSNs allow businesses to build longer-lasting, deeper, profitable relationships with the constituents. Importantly, the private community is engaged and is always connected with "what's going on". PSN members connect, share ideas, ask questions & learn more from the experts. Customers share useful information & valuable feedback openly, and frequently. This creates greater goodwill and builds considerable member & customer loyalty. PSNs help businesses retain, manage, engage & grow the customer base (and reduce customer churn). PSNs help grow partner channels, and make them even more productive.

2. Collaborative Culture - PSNs help build a thriving company culture that transforms the organization into an interactive, engaging community that begins to share ideas, make new connections, collaborate, and leverage expertise rapidly and frequently. As more users use PSNs, more ideas get generated & shared, more collaboration & group coordination begins to happen, more projects get managed on time, and more issues get tracked & resolved. In short, a collaborative organizational culture emerges when a company uses PSN.

3. Exclusivity - Exclusivity is key to Private Social Networking. A Private Social Network is exclusive to only the invited users and business community. Customers, partners & members are aware that they belong to an exclusive private community, and will love to be part of it! Outside users (including competition) have no access to the PSN.

4. Privacy & Security - On a PSN, the organization controls & manages access to all users of the network. There is complete privacy of the user information since the PSN is under business' management. PSNs are completely secured. Outside users cannot simply get into a PSN. Finally, all shared information by the members of a PSN remains private within the community.

5. Business Branding - A business is able to manage & maintain its brand on a PSN with ease. PSNs offer many customization options - logos, banners, network names, modules, messaging, workflow & more. A business is able to fine-tune & customize a PSN such that it becomes an extension of its brand or website.

Best of all, the competition has no idea, nor access to an organization's private social network. Hence, the competition cannot benefit from the PSN.

Finally, PSN - Private Social Networks can be selectively public, and can help the business build & promote the business brand on major public social networks.

oGoing - Private Social Networks for Business

There are many benefits when a business uses public social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, MySpace & emerging social media services! Here are just a few benefits: Promote & market your brand, find new prospects, create fan base, enter new markets, offer incentives & coupons, capture customer feedback and defend your brand!

However, public social networks can also be dangerous for your business:

Here are the Five Pitfalls of public social networks for your business: Be in the know!

1. Information Security - All business information that is put on these public social networks is public (Everything! Don't get mislead that your business information is safe. Anything you share on these public networks becomes public knowledge!)

2. Network Access - Employees of the company setup & share public profiles on these public networks (your business loses control, as employees access these public networks and share sensitive information, knowingly or unknowingly; as more employees get on these social networks, greater is the risk of your business information going in wrong hands!)

3. Industry Compliance - Public social networks offer minimum to no industry compliance, security & regulatory support (Sharing of any information about your customers, partners or members, knowingly or unknowingly, on these public networks can be detrimental to your business.)

4. Competition - Your competition will love you for using these public social networks (the more information you share on these public social networks, the better your competition learns about you, your customers & your business; and your competition will use this knowledge to win against you!)

5. Customers - Your customers, members and partners may hesitate to do business with you over public social networks (Concerns over sharing of their profiles, sharing of critical business information, security, and saying something in a public forum that will be taken out of context prevents external users to do business on public social networks).

What are Private Social Networks for Business? And what are some of the key benefits...

Private Social Networks - PSNs provide the core features & functionality of Public Social Networks... The Pitfalls of Public Social Networks

Why Your Business May Not Use public social networks such as Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to do business?

Learn about the pitfalls of public social networks, and the importance of private social networks for your business.

Attend the Webinar: oGoing Presents "Your Network is Your Business" every Wednesday at 10 am PST.

RSVP HERE

We all love public social networks because they allow us to connect, engage, share ideas, network, find prospects, market, and promote our brand! However, did you know about the:

Top Five Dangers of Public Social Networks:

1. All business information on these public networks is public! Don't get fooled from these public social networks when they tell you that your information is secure. There is “no privacy!”. Don't take our word. Read what's going on here:
Two House members asked Facebook Inc. for more details about the way applications on the social network handle user information, following revelations of new privacy concerns.
U.S. Reps. Edward Markey (D., Mass.) and Joe Barton (R., Texas) sent Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg a letter expressing concerns that "third-party applications gathered and transmitted personally identifiable information about Facebook users and those users' friends." The two representatives are co-chairmen of the House Bipartisan Privacy Caucus. Learn more
2. Each employee of your company must create a separate public profile on these public social networks. When more employees of your company use these public networks and create new public profiles, the more your business is at risk! The risk of your business sensitive internal information getting shared knowingly or unknowingly through these public profiles by any of your employees increases exponentially!

3. These public social networks offer minimum to no compliance & regulatory support. Many industries such as Finance, Healthcare, Government & Defense require compliance & security, and have strict regulations on sharing of sensitive internal information. Many of these public networks do not offer any measures wherein they will protect your business sensitive information. Rather, they encourage you to share as much information as possible. Think twice before putting any business information on these public social networks.

4. Your competition will love you for using these public social networks. Since your competition can see everything that you do, how you do your business online on these public social networks, who shares information from your company, who are your followers, customers & users and much more. The more public social networks your business uses, the more information you share about your business online, the more your competition learns about you, and ultimately utilizes this knowledge to win against you!

5. Your customers and partners may hesitate to do business with you over public social networks. Whereas, they may initially work with you on these public social networks thinking it's cool, but eventually, they will become reluctant in sharing information & feedback with you owing to privacy concerns as well. Imagine if your customer shares something sensitive over a public social network. What if your customer bad mouths you? What could happen? Again, your competition will have a field day with this.

These are just a few reasons on why your business must re-think using public social networks for doing business!

ISTE 2010: You Have Seen the Future

"You have seen the future!"

That's what came out of the presenter's mouth. He was presenting what he called the "most important" advance in education we've seen in a decade. The result of endless hours of research and development. An advance that would finally allow us to truly assess our students in a way that matters.

The advance?

The Promethean ActivExpression. Which for a cost of only $2,000 for a set of 32 of the 1990's cell-phone shaped device, will change education forever.

Because it does this thing that's absolutely incredible: it allows kids to text responses and through the exclusive Promethean software, it allows everybody to see those responses projected in real-time!

And for only $2,000+ change per classroom! Amazing! Earth shattering! I've seen the future of classroom communication!

Except that this kind of communication premiered in 2007. And it's free.

It's called Twitter.

And not only is there nothing that the Promethean ActivExpression shoe-phone can do that your kids can't do in class sending an SMS to Twitter and following the conversation with Hootsuite, it's also a closed system that only works on Promethean software (well, actually, you can run the thing without the software and use it as a glorified yes/no clicker).

For any admin even remotely considering purchasing the ActivExpression system to "engage students with formative learning", I strongly suggest you first spend the summer learning how Twitter works in the classroom. Here's a great resource for you to check out.

As for Promethean showing you the future, tell 'em you've already seen it... and it's not what they're selling.

ISTE 2010: Twitter for Education and Leadership Connections

Biggest "non-ballroom" crowd I've seen so far: @crafty184, @jonbecker, and @brueckj23 leading a not-dumbed-down introduction to Twitter for education and leadership.

a) I think there's something to be said for the fact that this was the most packed session I've seen so far.

b) Kudos to the trio for helping a lot of folks how to access that "other" conference going on via the Web simultaneously as the physical one here at the Denver Convention Center. Access to that meta-conference is priceless; it's where connections are being made that will long outlast anything said in these rooms -- connection both with people here in Denver and with folks around the world who are pushing education and leadership in new directions.

Twitter Is Going To Un-Cloak Your Affiliate Links: Are You Ready?

By Luis Galarza - Gamevertising.

The real question here is: What will happened with conversions and your ROI when Twitter start un-cloaking your affiliate links!...

Yes, my affiliate friends Mashable announced yesterday that Twitter is changing the way they display links, this is great for avoiding getting send to a site with malware, viruses, trojans, and other phishing Internet attacks. But, for ethical online marketers this can mean that your conversions can go from hero to zero depending on the campaign, for example if you link to ugly Clickbank or Amazon affiliate links directly this will indeed lower your conversions.

Now, covering or cloaking your links is not unethical, is actually a good way to avoid commissions thief from stealing from you. The problem is that if you are a marketer with zero budget to invest or no knowledge of HTML at all, your revenue can be in jeopardy.

Here is why:
"The first change is the auto-wrapping of links with the t.co short URL. This URL will replace twt.tl, which the company has been using to shorten links in direct messages for several months. However, you won’t see t.co appear very often — if at all — on Twitter.com or your favorite Twitter app, because the company is changing how links are treated on the platform.
Whenever it’s possible to display a longer link, Twitter will display that URL information so that users aren’t fooled by obscure links that turn out to be malware. Twitter’s example is http://www.amazon.com/Delivering-Happiness-Profits-Passion-Purpose/dp/0446563048/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275966329&sr=8-1%22, which links to Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s new book. In a text message, you’d see the link automatically turned into a t.co link (due to the SMS character limit), but on Twitter.com, it will display either part of the link (amazon.com/Delivering-), the page title or the entire link. What will exactly be displayed has yet to be decided.
Second, t.co links will be routed through a service that will eventually make t.co part of the Promoted Tweets algorithm. That means the links you click will determine what ads are displayed in Twitter’s new system. Twitter is also looking to provide analytics from t.co data for companies using Twitter’s commercial accounts service. The routing will also check whether the link in question comes from a malicious source, thus preventing malware and phishing attacks."
Source: Mashable.

The Solution.

The solution is simple, if you read my post about bad Twitter marketing tactics you should avoid, you already know that posting direct links to an affiliate page or sales-page if you are a merchant is a big NO, NO! Just like the rules for any social network, you need to build connections and relationships, don't sell, instead pre-sell.

The right marketing method to apply here is:
  1. Find the affiliate products related to your niche.
  2. Create or get the distribution rights of a good small report about the same subject.
  3. Build a squeeze page to generate leads.
  4. Send subscribers to the affiliate salespage right after subscribing.
  5. Set up an autoresponder follow up system, to get more sales.
  6. Build a close relationship with your leads.
  7. Generate more income from back-end offers.

And yes, you can do all that with free marketing resources. Here are the ones your should use:
As you can see you can easily and for free have your campaign or a brand new online business up and running in no time.

Your Tweet.

OK, let's come back to how your to tweet your promotions... I'm not a fan of tweeting anything that have to be with selling products, I prefer a different approach which helps me build a strong following, and increase my level of authority in my field. But, if you still want to tweet promotions, here is what you need to do after Twitter applies their new linking system:

1. - Send your followers to a landing page on your site, this way you don't link to ugly referrals URLs. Your landing page can be:
  • An article.
  • Lead generating form.

Network Marketing Tips - The Ultimate MLM Network Marketing Lead Building Secrets

All of we reps in network marketing need to have an on-going list of fresh mlm network marketing leads to talk. In other words,we need to have an ever expanding mlm business leads list.

I like what Chris has to say about this. Since I am doing some of the same things, I thought I'd share this with you!

Uncover These Dynamite MLM Network Marketing Lead Secrets and Become a Lead Master Overnight

By Chris Hopkins

Statistics show that 97% of people who have a go at MLM fail, earning less that $10 a week and the key reason for this is a lack of fresh daily leads. Fresh leads are the backbone of any MLM business and if you're not capturing at least 15 - 20 leads a day you're on a fast track to MLM failure.

Research conducted by Brian Finale, part owner of one of the most successful MLM lead generation systems online, shows that for every 100 people that take a look at your MLM company on average only 2 or 3 will join and I have to admit my own lead conversion Figures confirm those numbers. For people already struggling in MLM this may seem like an impossible proposition but don't panic just yet because I'm going to tell you exactly how you can do it.

Here's how I find and attract new MLM network marketing leads into my business every day. Follow this strategy and you could easily be generating in excess of 30 a day within the next month.

I specifically target people already in MLM or people considering information about MLM opportunities. These people are easy to find and you can connect with them through Twitter, the social networks, MLM and network marketing forums, through video marketing and article writing. But I don't just do this randomly, I combine these strategies in a way that provides massive buzz around everything I do. Here's the strategy.

First of all I create some important, valuable content that mlm marketers may be interested in and post it to my blog. Each time I upload a blog it creates a search engine listing for that keyword topic meaning that my content can now be found.

Next I take that very same content and publish it to 100's of article directories. To do this I use an automatic article submitter to syndicate this content across 100's of free online article directories I always create a backlink to the original content on my blog when submitting.

Next I make a video post about my blog post, once again including a link to the blog post and post it to YouTube and a host of other video sites. Not only does this provide another way to seek out and direct MLM network marketing lead traffic to my blog, it also creates high value backlinks helping my content get pushed further up the search engines. This is going to get people clicking on my search engine links and visiting my blog.

The next step is to use Twitter updates and social network status updates to send my content viral.I do this by creating a twitter tweet using my blog headline and a link and posting at least 5 times throughout the day. This also gets my content noticed and gets people clicking to visit my blog. As an added extra other twitter users will regularly retweet my post to their followers giving me even more traffic.

This strategy of offering extreme value and marketing it using all of the free avenues available online attracts 1000's of visitors to my blog every month Here's why. When individuals arrive at my blog and read the valuable content this begins the relationship building process and develops trust making people more open to subscribing to my lead list through the various offers I present at the end of my blog posts and throughout my blog in general.

Overhead at Eyefortravel TDS – social media stole my conference

The word social media appeared nowhere in the title for Eyefortravel’s Trave Distribution Summit Asia (they have other conferences that do) but it was the number one topic from presenters on April 29 in Singapore.

In my keynote, I spoke about the rise of transactional questions on Facebook and Twitter. I highlighted a number of examples of consumers using twitter and Facebook to ask questions that are begging for advertisers to provide answers. Opening up social search as a real competitor for Google. Sharat Dhall of Tripadvisor spoke of the never ending flood of user reviews/photos and hotelier responses. Particularly of interest in his presentation was the launch of TripWow and how Tripadvisor is expanding their insatiable lust for content from text to photos. Joe Nguyen of comScore showed the numbers with a left to right sharp incline for Facebook travel stats. Starwood spoke of having 1 million mentions in social media in 2 weeks (though many of us weren’t sure the numbers were right). Brett Henry of Abacus called Foursquare and Gowalla as the future must watch emerging businesses. Morris Sim of Circos Brand Karma told a story of a 4000% ROI on a social media marketing campaign (though admitted that scaling it was extraordinarily hard). Aloke Bajpai of ixiGo spoke of the future of apps and mobile as social devices – as soon as someone launches a more advanced mechanism for app search and discover. Even speakers that started by expressing concern that the conference had become dominated by social media talk ended up talking non stop about the user forums on their site.

It turned me to thinking about whether or not it was fair to hijack the conference and talk so much on this one area of consumer interaction and marketing. On one level it is understandable given that social networking sites are generating the most traffic, buzz, funding and consumer attention. But (as I said in my keynote) we cannot allow ourselves to get caught up in excitement and forget that the number one online battle ground for transactions is still on Google/Yahoo/Baidu/Naver etc. We must get engaged in social networking and content but cannot take our eye, money and talent off the traditional search battleground. My tip for social media was to focus on data, content and customer monitoring first them look to transactions in social media in a year or two (or three). For more on my thoughts see my post ad:tech thoughts here.

Some of the hoteliers in attendance may have felt disappointed that they did not hear more about how to rank on Google, spend on banners effectively, sign up with OTAs, manage content and improve SEO performance. This is was not a conference for talking about what to do now in the places that generate traffic and business. This was a conference for thinking about what was next – where we talked about how to engage with an audience that wants to talk to you and be with you online.

Attendance was solid in terms of numbers with a majority hoteliers, then online agents then technology and service providers. I have been noticing more and more that airlines have all but stopped turning up to online specific conference, limiting themselves to airline specific ones. On the format, eyefortravel are pulling good quality speakers but it is time to do away with the 3x15+QA format. That is the format where each session has three speakers giving a 15 minute presentation each followed by panel Q&A. Conferences like this need less power point and more QA and interview formats. Moving the format away from collective presentations to interview and panels will reduce the sales pitching that continues to creep (and sometimes storm) in and increase the speed at which the conversation gets to the interesting analysis.

Finally snaps to Don Birch who was a great chair. Insightful questions and summaries.
