Saw this over at the Catholic Anchor:
In the entry for “The Catholic Press in America,” published in the Encyclopedia Americana, 1918, Father Paul Folk, CSC, librarian at Notre Dame University, explained the need for a vigorous Catholic press.Geneva, I couldn't agree more. I applaud Mr. Joel Davidson and the rest of the Anchor crew. I sure hope my reports from this past Dec./Jan. were incorrect; I would love it if Joel was around to "stay."
“Our modern life mirrors our newspapers,” he wrote. “Our major modern metropolitan newspapers today devote over half their first page to scandals, suicides, divorce proceedings, robberies, murders and other abominable social barbarities. If this is evidence of the moral decadence of our democracy, then there is a clear duty for all of us.”
With this writing on the importance of a strong Catholic press, written almost a century ago, I thank the Catholic Anchor for presenting a strong, clear alternative to the secular press. It offers accurate Catholic teachings that are needed by all of us Catholics in this confusing society.
