Solemnity of The Annunciation - March 25

O God, who didst will that Thy Word should take flesh, at the message of an Angel, in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grant to Thy suppliant people, that we who believe her to be truly the Mother of God, may be helped by her intercession with Thee. Grant to us Thy servants, we beseech Thee, O Lord God, that we may enjoy perpetual health of mind and body: and through the intercession of the Blessed Mary ever Virgin may be delivered from present sorrow and enjoy everlasting gladness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ thy Son . .

By her yes, we not only received our Lord as a salvific King, but we too acquired Our Lady Queen of Heaven and the Angels as an intercessor for our needs and petitions with her same Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

It pains me to think that there are Christians so unwilling to accept the help of her that was entrusted to us. I ask for Our Lady's intercession for them, so they too can understand and love the fulness of all the Christ gave to us.

I also pray for young women to say yes to God in the area of religious vocation. The Church needs prayer and few prayer longer, harder, and more than the good women sisters and nuns dedicated to Christ.

Dear Vice Chancellor, what about Canon 915?

The Catholic Anchor has recently posted an article outlining the pronouncements of Archdiocese of Anchorage Vice Chancellor Eileen Kramer regarding the Code of Canon Law no. 1251.

But in a March 24 email sent to pastors and parish life coordinators around the archdiocese, Anchorage Archdiocese Vice Chancellor Eileen Kramer noted that Canon Law nullifies the obligation to abstain from meat when a solemnity falls on a Friday in Lent.

Specifically, Canon 1251 states: “Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference (a bishops’ conference), is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.”

Now I first want to say how happy I am to see that the Vice Chancellor is so willing and ready to make prouncements about the Code of Canon Law. Catechesis on such issues are crucical to our understanding of the teachings of the Church and our development as Catholics.

My only question is what about teaching us about Canon 915?

1983 CIC 915. Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.
