H/T: The Anchoress
This is what they had to say:
H/T
As Camille Paglia said – Palin is a natural.
Which is one reason why -for some- she must be destroyed.
A politician who has the ability to laugh at himself, and to convey a sense of being completely comfortable in his own skin, is a politician who brings with him the intangible, unmeasurable gift of touching people where they live, in their gut. And that makes people feel safe, and reassured. As we saw in the last election, marketing and PR can certainly persuade. But if people have a choice between slick-but-cool enigma, or a something warm and safe, they’ll take warm and safe, every time.
That’s the other reason Palin must be destroyed.
William Shatner, by the way, was brilliant, too.
I don't know if I necessarily agree that Palin is warm and safe. In fact... I don't think there is anything SAFE about her. But she is GOOD! [For those C.S. Lewis fans... yes I just went there.] You see, Sarah Palin isn't the most polished "politician." She doesn't do things the way that politicians are supposed to. Sometimes she even does things that infuriate those who support her, because they are left with no good answers to defend her actions. But what politician isn't? I don't want to fall into pragmatism or relativism, that isn't what I am saying.
I am simply trying to say that Sarah brings something a little "wild" to the table. [Don't worry, I wont use the words ROGUE or MAVERICK.] But she really does resemble a gunslinger. Is that scary? Sure it is... but so was Dutch demanding that the Berlin wall be torn down, so was Kennedy staring the soviets down at Cuba, so was Truman hitting the "button." The list goes on and on. Great achievement often takes great risk. Politicians screw up and it is never OK, the stakes are too high... but I haven't found one that doesn't. At the end of the day Sarah brings a goodness with her that I think could really revitalize this nation.
I know there are things about her that don't seem to "fit" with a president... but let's look at the current guy. I don't expect liberals to agree with me. They are philosophically built - differently. I do expect those out there that casually think about politics - especially Catholics, to see in Sarah a glimmer of something different. Something a little wild, untamed, and definitely not safe. But at the same time see something good. See down inside of everything a true belief that life should simply be ours to live. We should be individuals living in this country as free as possible. We should NOT be part of the collective. As Catholics are collective is the body of Christ. Our God demands that of us... our government should not. We cannot serve two masters.
So when we look at Sarah, I hope we are witnessing the blossoming of something GOOD, I really do. There is always a chance, especially with politicians that you are simply seeing what they want you to see. That really the person talking on TV is a hollow shell, or worse yet an evil genius. Something tells me though that you can't fake this. I pray that what we see is truly a wild and gunslinging goodness.
