Develop your understanding of International Standards on Auditing with this online qualification designed for those involved in the audit process.

How long is the assessment?
The assessment is one hour long and there are 25 multiple choice questions.
What is the pass mark?
The pass mark is 50%.
Do I receive a certificate on successful completion of the online course?
Yes. On passing the assessment you should receive the certificate within 7-10 days. Please note that this is sent to the address that you entered on registration.
Will the pass mark appear on my certificate?
No, the percentage is not recorded on the certificate. Your name, the official ACCA water seal and the signatures of ACCA Council are all included on the certificate.
Can I take two online courses at the same time?
Yes, but you must register using the same AD number eg (AD12345) or ACCA membership/registration number. This way you will be linked to all ACCA online courses that you have registered for, past or present.
Do I need to purchase additional course material?
In order to gain maximum advantage from this course, you should obtain a copy of the bound volume of the International Financial Reporting Standards. You can purchase this direct from the IASB website.

What is the target audience for the Certificate in International Financial Reporting?
The target audience is professional accountants and auditors, qualified in accordance with their national accounting standards. However, it is possible for those with experience, but no formal qualifications in accounting and auditing to register for this Certificate.
How much does the course cost?
The course materials and assessment for the Certificate are available together for £210 or can be purchased separately at a cost of £115 each.
ACCA members receive a discount for the Certificate. The course materials and assessment are available together for £168 or can be purchased separately at a cost of £92 each. The discount will be applied automatically when members register online with a valid credit card and enter their ACCA membership number.
How do I register?

When can I register?
Students can register online at any time throughout the year – there are no closing dates.
How can I pay for the Certificate in International Financial Reporting?
The current method of payment for the online courses is by credit or debit card.
What is the duration of the course?
You will have access to the course for three months exactly from the date that you register.
How many hours does it take to complete the Certificate in International Financial Reporting?
It is anticipated that the average Certificate in International Financial Reporting student will take 20 hours to work through the course. The course and assessment will count towards CPD for members of ACCA (subject to ACCA guidelines).
For members following the ACCA Realise Unit Scheme, completing the course materials will contribute 20 units of CPD. A further five units of CPD is available for passing the assessment.
How do I access the course once I have registered?
On registration, you will be sent a User ID and Password alongside instructions on how to access the course. Please follow these carefully to access the course materials.
What if I forget my password and username?
You can contact us by e-mailing your query to: students@accaglobal.com and entering 'Certificate in International Financial Reporting' in the e-mail subject line. Please request your password in the body of your e-mail.
How do I download the course materials?
Go to the course 'Welcome' page. Click on 'Download a printable version of the course' then click on the disk icon to download.
How is the course assessed?
It is assessed by online multiple-choice assessment. It is only possible for candidates to take the multiple-choice assessment online and marking is also administered and conducted electronically. The score for the assessment will be available on screen for the candidate immediately after taking the assessment.
Do I need to attend an exam centre to sit the assessment?
No, the assessment is sat online. As long as you have access to a computer then you can sit the assessment anywhere.
How many attempts do I have at the assessment?
Each student has three attempts. If a student fails all three attempts at the assessment, they will be required to pay a further registration fee and will be given another three attempts to pass the assessment.

Created in 1929, the Association of County Commissions of Alabama has worked tirelessly to promote quality county government and improved services to Alabama's residents for more than 70 years.

It reviews and evaluates issues related to the administrative functions of county government, including budgeting, management, personnel, health care, competitive bidding and interaction with other county offices. This committee considers legislation and policy on a variety of matters affecting county government, such as elections, the Alabama Trust Fund and economic development. The recommendations of the committee are forwarded to the Association's Board of Directors and ultimately included in the Association's legislative package.

Professional Ethics

Professional Ethics module

As part of your ethical development, students are required to complete the Professional Ethics module, developed by ACCA. This will give you exposure to a range of ethical perspectives and includes several self-tests which require you to reflect on your own ethical behaviour and values. You then apply what you have learned in a case study where you experience an audit situation from two points of view - that of the auditor and the corporate financial accountant.
You are given access to the Professional Ethics module as soon as you become eligible to take Paper P1, Governance, Risk and Ethics. It is recommended that you take the Professional Ethics module at the same time as, or before, the Governance, Risk and Ethics paper.
While you have the flexibility to complete the ethics module in your own time, if you registered as a student after January 2007, you should note that ethics is now one of your requirements of membership. ACCA will now contact you as soon as you have met all of the requirements - exams, ethics, experience and performance objectives - and invite you to transfer to membership. However, if you believe that you have met these requirements, there is no need to wait for us to get in contact, you can still submit an application form.
The module uses current best practices in online learning. Upon request, alternative arrangements will be provided for students who do not have access to the internet.
Completing the Professional Ethics module is not a requirement for existing students transferring over to the new qualification, although they are encouraged to complete the module. However, all students registering on the new ACCA Qualification, ie any students registering or re-registering after January 2007, including CAT students transferring over to the ACCA Qualification, are required to complete the Professional Ethics module.
You can return to the module at any time to 'top up' or check your awareness of professional ethics.

In residential applications, occupant comfort is affected by temperature, humidity, air motion, clothing, the temperature of the interior surfaces of the room, and the quality of the indoor air.
The purpose of the HVAC system is to bring these factors in balance with the metabolic activity and the respiratory requirements of the occupants.

Oxford Brookes BSc in Applied Accounting

The ACCA's innovative partnership with Oxford Brookes University enables students to obtain a BSc Honours Degree in Applied Accounting , while studying for their ACCA qualification.
To gain the degree, you must complete the first two parts of the Professional Scheme of examinations, and submit a Research and Analysis Project to the university for assessment.
To be eligible, students must:

Have sat and passed, or been exempted from, all of the ACCA papers at level one, and papers F4 and F6
Have sat and passed papers F9, F7 and F8
Have registered with ACCA for the Oxford Brookes degree in Applied Accounting

Important note:
Students who have exemptions from papers F9, F8 or F8, or any other papers, based on qualifications gained more than ten years ago, are not eligible to join the degree scheme.
To obtain the Oxford Brookes degree in Applied Accounting students must:

Complete a Research and Analysis Project (5000 words)
Complete a key skills statement (1500 words)
Attend at least three meetings with a mentor
Present their project to the mentor and, if possible, a peer group of students

Contemporary annual reports have used narrative reporting to bridge the gap between narrowly-focused statutory reporting and the information needs of stakeholders. In its various forms, narrative reporting provides a unique opportunity for management to comment on the historical and future financial performance of a business, as well as disclose risk management, corporate governance, intangible assets, relationships with stakeholders and environmental and social responsibility information.
In the last few years, even though the volume of narrative reporting in annual reports has increased manifold, the value of narrative reports in terms of their decision-usefulness, reliability, comparability and relevance to the users of annual reports is contentious.
Today, as policy makers and stakeholders are urging more transparency and timeliness in annual reports, preparers need to explore the true potential of narrative reporting by using it to communicate transparency and provide timely information by leveraging technology and exploring the option of digital narrative reporting.

Access to Finance

Access to finance is one of the most important issues facing business today. At the global level, the 'wall of money' spoken of three years ago - cash flowing from resource-rich economies to indebted developed nations - is no more, with the world economy enduring a slow, tentative recovery.
Leverage, the extensive use of debt, as the easiest way to gain access to finance, has gone. Banking institutions are still living in fear of lending, and distrust each other. At the more prosaic level, for the entrepreneur or for local government providing physical infrastructure, access to finance is no longer a routine matter. It has become a tangible barrier to getting things done.
For accountants acting as trusted business advisors, understanding and devising routes to access finance is one of the most valuable services they can provide. Not only must they 'keep the books' and maintain control over cashflow but, like doctors, accountants must increasingly be able to assess when they should refer effectively to the right specialists.

Carbon Accounting

The question of carbon emissions - how we manage, measure and hopefully reduce them - is central to the issues of climate change and global warming.
Lord Stern's seminal 2006 paper on the challenges posed by these issues concluded;

the benefits of strong, early action considerably outweigh costs
unabated climate change could cost the world at least 5% and as much as 20% of GDP each year
the cost of reducing emissions could be limited to around 1% of GDP.

The accountancy profession is gradually recognising that, if not already at the tipping point beyond which irreversible climate change will occur, then we are very nearly at that point, with inevitable costs for business and society. There is a major part for the profession to play in developing strategies and solutions in response to the carbon challenge, and ACCA is determined to occupy a leading role.

Audit and society

The role of audit is currently under heightened scrutiny. The global financial upheaval of the past three years has seen commentators questioning the value of large company audit. In a separate agenda, some governments have sought to minimise audit and other reporting requirements for many small businesses by inexorable lifting of the audit exemption threshold. They have equated audit to 'red tape', portraying the audit as a burden on small businesses from which those businesses need to be freed.
ACCA believes it's vital that the accountancy profession re-examines the role of audit and considers whether a sufficiently strong case is being put forward, of the benefits audit can provide businesses, the economy and society. There is little published research which demonstrates the value of audit in promoting business confidence. ACCA believes this value needs to be evidence-based and constantly tested against the demands and needs of users and beneficiaries of audit and assurance

he economic, political and environmental climate has exposed shortcomings in the way public policy and regulation have developed in areas such as financial regulation, financial reporting, corporate transparency, climate change and assurance provision.
In response to the challenges presented to the accountancy profession by this new business environment, ACCA's Accountancy Futures programme has four areas of focus - access to finance, audit and society, carbonaccounting, and narrative reporting. What’s the schedule?

Two days, packed full of instruction interwoven with business case work in small groups.

Faculty?

ACC has assembled a faculty of legal practitioners with deep experience in value based fee structures and management practices with backgrounds in law department and law firm management as well as consulting. These experienced practitioners, in addition to preparing curricular materials and teaching, serve as facilitators as you work in small groups through business cases to apply your new management tools.

How much does it cost?

$1,250 for two days of intensive learning for ACC members and $1,950 for law firm partners, which included take-away resources you can use right away, and networking opportunities over meals and cocktails. For in-house counsel who are not ACC members, the price is $1,545; and multiple ACC members from the same company can attend at the price of $1,000 per person.

We checked back with half of the July program participants 5 months later and every one of them said that they have made real progress in driving value in firm/client relationships. They have implemented new fee structures, put in place new project management practices and are leveraging data and knowledge in new ways - and they are using tools and techniques provided in Legal Service Management. All are moving the needle on efficiency and value.
