What Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Means for Web Traffic

Search engine marketing (SEM) refers to all the processes employed in order to increase a pages visibility on search engines. Given the hundreds of millions of websites comprising billions of individual web pages, businesses must find a way of ensuring an effective web presence that sets them apart from the competition. A good SEM strategy draws in new web traffic and grows business revenue from both online and offline sales. There are three main approaches to SEM.
Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - SEM and Organic SEO are often confused and some choose to use the two terms interchangeably. But over time, internet marketing professionals have come to acknowledge that SEM is a super set of SEO. Organic SEO is the use of search marketing techniques that do not require the website owner to pay search engine companies.
The term organic implies that the website is allowed to 'naturally' move up the search result rankings. Organic SEO mainly revolves around keyword optimization which is the targeting of specific keywords on the website. When compared to the other two methods of SEM, organic SEO is more cost effective.
Pay Per Click Advertising (PPC) - Unlike organic SEO, PPC requires that the website owner pay the search engine. PPC involves a competitive bidding process where the higher one bids for a particular keyword, the higher the priority their website will be given on search results. In order to prevent confusion, PPC ads will be highlighted separate from the organic search results. PPC is preferred by businesses that want to attract high web traffic fast since it provides visibility faster than organic SEO.
The down side with PPC though, is that it can get expensive if web traffic is too high. The website owner is required to pay the search engine every time someone clicks through the PPC link. To prevent manipulation, search engines also balance the bid amount with some aspects of organic SEO such as the relevance of the website's content.
Pay For Inclusion (PFI) - PFI is also known as Paid Inclusion (PI). Here the website owner will pay the search engine to have their website included in the search index for one or more subjects. This is different from PPC since the cost is not a factor of the number of clicks to the page but is rather a static cost. Subjects may be anything from entertainment and automobiles to travel and education. PFI has however been on the decline over the years with the largest search engine, Google, having free website submission.
A business is not under obligation to use just one of these three SEM approaches to increase web traffic- it can use a combination of two or three all depending on budget and business

The future of the new engine is coming, as some people say, and it is the universal search engine. But what it is, and how to make your site universal search engine friendly, is the bigger question.
They say that universal search is what you will get when instead of going to Google for search results you will just go to this search engine where you get results from every venue available. Finding Profitable Niches With Keyword Research

Many people learn about finding profitable niches online after they have learned how to do many other things related to internet marketing. People backtrack to this subject because it's something that is easily overlooked the first time around. The lure of making money as an internet marketer causes people to rush past the important information and jump straight into the act of trying to sell something.
Profitable Niche Research
The first step to find a profitable niche market is to do some hands-on research. Find a major website that is selling something relational to what you would like to sell. Amazon and Ebay are good places to start if you are interested in physical products, while Clickbank is good for digital products. Many people are looking to promote products as an affiliate, although these same techniques still apply if you want to sell your own products.
These major websites share a decent amount of information that you can use to help find a niche market that is profitable, popular and with relatively low competition. Take a look through some categories to get an idea of what types of items people actually buy. This is a crucial step in the process, because you must target something that people want to buy online.
The biggest mistake that most people make is to stay too general. The idea of a niche market is not the same thing as a general category. As an example, internet marketing is a general category, but niche keyword research is a niche in that category. By targeted very specific groups of products and/or services, you can avoid a lot of competition and actually have a chance at success.
When you are searching through these sites to find profitable niche markets, start by making a list of possibilities. Come up with some very specific types of products that interest you and others. You want to target popular or top-rated products, but you generally will want to stay away from the absolute best. The most popular products in almost every category are already loaded with competition, so start your search a bit down the list.
Keyword Research
The next step to finding a profitable niche is to do some keyword research for your niche possibilities. This is where most people start to get confused and frustrated, which is why many people result to paid niche keyword research tools.
The truth is that these tools are cheating you, because they give you old results. Keyword research tools cannot fetch real-time data for every user and every search, so they cache information. This information does get updated each month or so, but you often end up seeing old results at any given time.
When you search by hand, you get the most up-to-date data and you can use common sense that keyword tools simply lack. Certain keyword phrases will not be worth your time and an automated research tool will not be able to weed out those bad results. The tools will also present other information that can easily cause you to overlook finding very profitable niches.
The best way to conduct your keyword research is with Google's Keyword Tool. When you sign in to an AdWords account, you will be able to get a larger list of results than you can without an account. You don't have to actually advertise on AdWords to have this account, just create an AdWords account.
Search through each of your niche possibilities to find popular keyword phrases that you can use to target your niche products. Make sure you select the '[Exact]' checkbox and deselect the 'Broad' checkbox on the left hand side of the page (shows up after you make a keyword search). This will show you how many people have actually searched for that exact phrase, instead of giving you a general number that can be very misleading.
You want to have a decent amount of monthly traffic volume for the phrases you target, but you also need to be sure that you will not have too much competition. For this reason, I generally look for phrases with 200-1000 exact keyword monthly searches.
During the next step of the keyword research process, you want to take your keyword phrase possibilities and actually perform the search on Google. If "internet marketing" is your keyword phrase, perform this search - all-in-title:"internet marketing". Pay attention to the number of results that you receive from the search. You want to find phrases that have less than 10,000 results for the "all-in-title" phrase search. The lower this number is, the lower the competition for that keyword phrase.
Your ultimate goal with finding profitable niches is to find niche products that are popular with keyword phrases that have a decent amount of traffic and low competition. When you can find a niche market that meets these guidelines, you will have yourself a profitable niche.

Social Network Marketing - A Fundamental Marketing Strategy For Achieving Maximum Online Success

In nearly every business industry there is a requirement to have a website, whether it acts as an information portal, an online tool designed to install trust and credibility in a company brand, or an e-commerce site dedicated to marketing products or services.
It's all very well having a website that has amazing graphics, images and products, but if online users don't know how to find your business or haven't heard of you, then the money you invested in your site and your business may well go up in smoke.
With e-commerce sites in particular, there is a considerable requirement for online marketing. Without it, your products and/or your brand will not effectively reach out to your target market, meaning you will most likely not succeed online.
There are two forms of online marketing that should be considered at the time of a website being launched - Social Network Marketing (ie. Facebook and Twitter) and Search Engine Optimisation (organic search engine rankings). Both of these combine to form the ultimate online marketing plan.
I have had dealings with many businesses running online e-commerce sites. In most cases, they've realised straight away that they need to have more than just a great looking, informative site with well-priced, quality products. A large number of site owners have approached me about this and I've then presented them with an online marketing concept plan and implemented it for them.
There are also clients who I've designed e-commerce sites for that weren't aware of the implications of not having an online marketing plan in place. It is my role to inform them of their needs and ensure they get the online presence they require to be successful.
There has been an explosion in social network marketing in recent times, with the majority of businesses using Facebook and/or Twitter. Both of these tools help promote ongoing interaction (ie. informing them of special deals and offers).
Through the right knowledge and experience, a website owner can quickly learn to grasp the concept of social media. Depending on the industry a client is in, the time involved in maintaining communication via Facebook and Twitter can be significant. A businesses' customers will often communicate using social media rather than via email. I have found that businesses that attract a large number of Facebook friends and Twitter followers often require a staff member who dedicates their entire working week to maintaining their social media marketing obligations.
Ranking on page 1 for the main keyword phrases that relate to your business will bring success, but through utilising social media, you can generate a whole lot more online success. You'll be surprised how well both work together.

By consolidating your online marketing plan you can directly oversee the monthly process quickly and effortlessly participate in the required changes, expansions and primary keyword targeting as your Business has special offers, seasonal discounts or most any branding message desired for increased client capture.
