EBA provides specialized engineering and scientific expertise for industrial, commercial and recreational marine facilities and infrastructure. Through the acquisition of Hay & Company (Hayco), EBA offers comprehensive services for conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of new facilities, retrofits and repairs to existing facilities, structural assessments, and inspections. Our capabilities include timber structures, concrete structures of cast-in-place, pre-cast and post-tensioned design, as well as those of structural steel. Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering
We provide innovative solutions to meet the existing and future transportation demands of automobiles, trucks, buses, rapid transit, bicycles, and pedestrians in urban, rural, and industrial environments. Our transportation and traffic engineering specialists, formerly operating as the Ward Consulting Group, plan road and transit networks for municipal, regional and provincial governments and private sector clients. Parking, access, and site circulation studies are undertaken by EBA to ensure efficient operation of new development sites. Infrastructure Management & Data Collection
We combine our expertise in infrastructure management and state-of-the-art data collection technologies to provide solutions to owners and operators of transportation infrastructure. Engineering

EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd. (EBA) has a well-earned reputation for innovation and excellence in the field of geotechnical engineering. We offer specialized engineering services for the mining, energy, transportation and development sectors.

Geotechnical Engineering
EBA provides engineering solutions to various project challenges ranging from terrain evaluation and site investigation to slope stability analysis and foundation design. We use state-of-the-art design and analysis software to assess deformation and over-stressing risks attributed to either construction loadings or environmental forces, such as earthquake or seepage. Our professional engineers are skilled in all foundation types and can customize unique optimum solutions where site conditions or facility requirements make normal techniques impractical.
EBA also offers a full suite of geotechnical engineering services for mine pit development, including resource modelling and wall design optimization.
Arctic Engineering
EBA has built an international reputation for creative, practical approaches to engineering projects in cold climates around the world. Our expertise has been applied in the arctic offshore to the first Beaufort Sea exploration drilling islands. Although a pioneer in arctic engineering, we remain at the forefront in the analysis of soil-pipe interaction loadings on well completions installed through deep permafrost, and have become the dominant designer of frozen core dams in the arctic for containment of mine supply water and tailings waste.
We also apply our integrated engineering and permitting services to road and pipeline route selection and development, and lead the advancement of ice-cover engineering to support heavier haulage requirements across winter ice roads.
Materials Engineering
EBA is a leader in materials testing techniques and in introducing new materials for pavement applications. We have advanced capabilities in pavements engineering, asphaltic concrete, Portland Cement concrete, as well as other materials engineering specialties.
EBA was the first Canadian firm to use nuclear densometers to measure insitu densities of engineered backfill; since then, we have developed numerous specialized laboratory equipment to measure the engineering properties of materials under several challenging situations. EBA offers state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for measuring soils undergoing frost-heave and creep; this type of testing requires precise control of applied ambient and measured response parameters.
EBA continues to be at the forefront of new pavement material applications, including stone matrix, warm mix and Superpave.
Hydrotechnical Engineering 
Through acquisition of Hay & Company (Hayco), EBA has established a solid reputation of providing custom hydrotechnical engineering solutions to public and private sector clients in Canada and internationally. We provide expertise in river and coastal engineering, hydrology and geomorphology, oceanography and limnology, hydraulic engineering, and stormwater management. EBA is a leader in three-dimensional hydraulic and hydrodynamic numerical modelling, earning several awards of excellence.

Engineering Geophysics
EBA delivers efficient and effective geophysical solutions to both standard and unique project challenges. We have the in-house expertise to deliver services in contact and non-contact resistivity surveys, seismic reflection/refraction surveys, magnetometer and gradiometer surveys, and ground penetrating radar surveys. In offshore and lake basin environments, we also provide skilled service using sidescan, multibeam bathymetry, subbottom profiling, and marine magnetometer equipment.
This broad equipment inventory, combined with our extensive project experience, allows EBA to custom design optimum data collection programs for a wide range of application needs, including bedrock profiling, borrow delineation, fill and muskeg thickness, ice-rich soil variability characterization, landfill delineation, groundwater/contaminant mapping, and archaeological investigations.
Mining Engineering 
EBA offers a broad and comprehensive range of mining engineering services to the mining industry throughout our western and northern Canadian operations base.
We routinely conduct Scoping and Preliminary Economic Assessments and Pre-Feasibility/Feasibility Studies for mining projects in western Canada and worldwide. We have well qualified mining engineers and geologists on staff who can provide engineering and geoscience services to support all phases of planning and permitting of mine development from exploration, scoping, preliminary and detailed design, through to construction, operation, and reclamation. Students on Ice: Antarctic Activities

Students on Ice (S O  I) is an award-winning organization offering unique educatio -
nal expeditions to the Antarctic and the Arctic. Its mandate is to provide students,
educators and scientists from around the world with inspiring educational opportunities at the ends of the Earth and, in doing so, help them foster a new understanding and respect for the planet. Since the year 2000, Students on Ice has
taken over 1200 students from more than 40 countries to both the polar regions.
S O  I was proud to have its S O  I–I  P Y Youth Expeditions 2007–2009 fully en -
dorsed by the International Polar Year (I  P Y) Joint Committee as a prominent and
valued part of the current I  P Y. S O  I’s expeditions and related educational activities
represented one of the largest I  P Y outreach, training and communications events
in the world (Fig. 1).
Now entering its tenth year, S O  I has grown in scale, scope and depth. Since
conducting the first youth-specific expedition to Antarctica in the world, the organization now leads 2–4 youth expeditions every year for both high-school and
university students. Just one of the unique features of the program is how the
expeditions reach thousands via an exciting and educational expedition website,
allowing people from around the world to track the students on the expeditions
and share their personal growth and experiences.
The Students on Ice program has consistently received awards and endorsements, such as the following:
● Michael Smith Award for Science Promotion (2004): This prestigious award honours outstanding contributions to the promotion of science through activities
encouraging popular interest or developing science abilities.

POLICIES TO BE IMPLEMENTED DURING A PANDEMIC

EMPLOYEE PANDEMIC POLICY
Purpose  This policy contains procedures and guidelines for employees who have
been exposed to pandemic influenza, are suspected  to be ill, may
become ill, and the leave benefits associated with EBA triggering our
Pandemic Plan.
Corporate
Commitment
EBA is committed to a healthy and safe work environment at all times.
During a pandemic, EBA will seek to work with employees to control
the spread of illness, maintain  a healthy work environment, and
minimize the economic disruption to EBA as an organization and to our
individual employees.
Definitions   Pandemic - is a worldwide outbreak of a communicable disease
that affects a large proportion of the population.  Concerns exist
that a pandemic involving an influenza virus will occur, and will
cause disruption to business operations and the negative health
impacts in the general population.
 Pandemic Influenza - is an infection of the lungs and airways
caused by an influenza virus.  Pandemic influenza occurs when a
new influenza virus, with an ability to spread easily from human to
human, circulates worldwide.  Because most people will have no
immunity to the pandemic influenza virus, infection, illness rates
and number of deaths are expected to be higher than during
seasonal epidemics of normal influenza.
Infection with the pandemic (H1N1 in 2009) influenza virus results
in “Influenza-Like-Illness” (ILI) similar to seasonal influenza.  ILI
is defined as the acute (sudden) onset of respiratory symptoms with
fever and cough and one or more of the following symptoms: sore
throat, muscle aches, joint pain, or weakness.  Gastrointestinal
symptoms may also be present and fever may not be prominent.
 Pandemic Leave - is defined as leave provided by EBA to employees
who may become ill or be absent from work directly related to
caregiving, exposure, or other measures of compliance with Public
Health Notices or once EBA’s Pandemic Plan has been triggered.
 Exposure - is a potential for transmission of the influenza virus
from one person to another.  People are exposed if:
− They are in immediate (less than 2 m) contact with another
individual who has ILI.  This will occur if one is caregiving for
an ill individual within the same household.

− They are in proximity (less than 2 m) to an individual with ILI,
who has sneezed, coughed, talked, or contacted surfaces (shook
hands, touched keyboards, pens, telephones, door handles) that
may be contaminated by a person with ILI.
Policy  Pandemic Leave will be provided as a benefit for salaried employees at
EBA, in conjunction with other benefit programs available to salaried
employees.  The following provisions further define Pandemic Leave:
 The Pandemic Leave benefit may be accessed for employee illness,
caregiving, exposure, or other measures of compliance with Public
Health Notices due to pandemic influenza.
 Pandemic Leave taken for caregiving is recognized as providing care
for those in an employee’s family residing in the same household.
 Pandemic Leave will be provided for up to 64 (working) hours -
the equivalent of eight working days.
 Pandemic Leave will be prorated according to FTE, for part-time,
salaried employees.
 Up to the first 24 (working) hours of Pandemic Leave will be
provided at 100% of salary (paid time off).
 Up to the remaining 40 (working) hours of Pandemic Leave will be
provided at 100% of salary (paid time off), provided an employee
has been vaccinated for either seasonal flu or the pandemic flu
strain.  With the changes made by federal and provincial health
agencies regarding availability of vaccinations this leave provision
will be implemented once either the seasonal flu or H1N1 has been
made to the general public.  At that time EBA will endeavour to
make them available to employees.  Local Pandemic Officers will
liaise with Greg Goth, Corporate Pandemic Officer, to ensure
vaccination records are provided for each office.
 Employees who have not been vaccinated will be paid at 30% of
salary (paid time off) for up to the remaining 40 (working) hours of
Pandemic Leave.  Non-vaccinated employees may choose to use
sick time (from their sick bank,  if available) for leave, up to a
maximum of 64 hours if providing care, or 80 hours if ill (self).
Employees who have a medical exemption for vaccination are
exempted from this reduced salary provision.  This provision will
be effective once EBA has made either the seasonal flu or H1N1
vaccinations available to employees.
 Any employees who have been  absent from work for 14
calendar days due to their own illness will be reviewed for their
eligibility for Short-Term Disability (STD), in accordance with
EBA’s STD Benefit program.

EMPLOYEE ACCESS TO AND AVAILABILITY OF MENTAL HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES

As part of EBA’s benefit plan, we provide  an Employee and Family Assistance Program
(EFAP) through HumanaCare as our provider.  HumanaCare provides confidential,
professional assessment, treatment and counselling services for employees, their families
and groups, to assist employees dealing with personal difficulties.
We have verified with HumanaCare that they do have a plan in place to deal with a
pandemic, particularly with regard to increased client demand volumes.  They have
contracted to increase counselling capacity as required, in all geographic locations of EBA
offices.  HumanaCare also has the capacity to enhance their alternate treatment modalities
to help expedite service, if the client requires.  These alternate modalities include telephone
counselling, audio seminars, group counselling and video conference sessions (via Skype).
Overall, HumanaCare is prepared for continued provision of service and has the ability to
increase capacity should client volume increase the demand for those services.
Employees are also able to access counselling services on their own, or through their
physician’s referral, and EBA’s benefit has coverage for these services (subject to per visit
and annual maximums).
  EMPLOYEES / CUSTOMERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS 
Some employees at EBA may face increased  challenges during a pandemic influenza
outbreak.  Those employees, who themselves or their family members:
• Have chronic illnesses or health conditions
• Who ride public transportation regularly or exclusively
• Are elderly or have very young/family members in need of care, where regular care
facilities (extended care, long-term care, hospitals, daycares, other special care) present a
higher risk of exposure and restriction of services during a pandemic.
• May require support or great latitude in making arrangements for care, or requiring
leave to provide care directly.  The Employee Pandemic Leave Policy outlines
provisions for employee who may require support or leave to care for those in need.
EBA does not have significant customer needs or walk-in traffic, the way retail or
hospitality industries would.  Due to the nature of our client contacts, we are better
positioned to screen our contact with  clients, limit meetings/use technology to
transfer/exchange information, and control the spread of infection with any customers.
The Pandemic Prevention and Control Policy outlines measures for EBA employees to
decrease the risk of transmission with our clients by using preventative measures.

Corporate Commitment to Sustainability

If you ask many of our employees, the most important commitment to sustainability is our goal to Improve Our Communities. In 2006, EBA’s Board of Directors decided that we would celebrate our company’s 40th anniversary by sharing the good fortune we’ve had over our many years of business. We decided to give back to help others in need by working with Partners in the Horn of Africa (Partners), a registered Canadian charity supported by private citizens in Alberta and British Columbia. In the spring of 2007, staff in every EBA office worked diligently organizing and carrying out fundraising activities to meet lofty goals to upgrade the buildings and furnishings in Kasso Manso, Ethiopia. There were more than 20 different fundraising ideas enacted that truly exemplified one of EBA's core values, “We Improve Our Communities".
Our team returned to Ethiopia in January 2009 to develop the plans for the overall multi-year program in the West Gojjam region of Ethiopia as well as more specific plans for projects to be undertaken in 2009.

BA Environmental, Inc is a full service environmental management and services firm with two offices in Florida. We work throughout the state. Our staff is comprised of educated, trained and experienced consultants with experience in government and industry.

EBA was formed in 1991 in Northeast and South Florida as a consulting and management firm specializing in environmental permitting, site evaluations, and agency negotiations. During these early years of the company much of the environmental work addressed issues related to the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee, involving complex issues of hydrology and water quality.

An EBA is an Exclusive Buyer's Agent.   This is an agent that works in a firm that never represents sellers.  
This eliminates the unavoidable conflict of interest within a real estate firm, which is inherent to dual agency or designated agency.   
Conflict of interest does not benefit a home buyer.  Regardless of how dual agency is presented, it is impossible to serve both sides well in a transaction, because strategic guidance and negotiation require that the client's confidentiality be fully respected.   EBAs therefore do all that is possible to serve the clients best interests.    The entire firm is working on the side of the buyer.   
Relinquishing the listing side of the commission is not something most Realtors are willing to do, but it is the best way to protect the client.
"EBA" is starting to be used by agents from listing firms who work with buyers.   These buyer agents are not properly called EBAs, because their firms take listings, and therefore a conflict of interest within the firm can exist.   Conflicted representation can be costly to the buyer in lost opportunity and negotiation advantage.

Bonzi Sanitary Landfill - Closure and Landfill Gas System Design

Project Description:
EBA has provided a multiplicity of services for the Bonzi Sanitary Landfill. This project consisted of the preparation of Final Closure and Postclosure Maintenance Plans and construction documents, including Plans, Specifications, and CQA Plans for the 80-acre Class III privately-owned landfill. The final closure design included an engineered alternative for the cover system. EBA permitted the use of a 30mil PVC cap in lieu of one foot of clay due to clay availability and to enhance landfill gas collection caused by shallow refuse depths.

EBA also designed and permitted a landfill gas extraction system and flare complex. System components included horizontal gas collection wells, vertical gas extraction wells, above ground piping, blowers, flare station and condensate collection and storage system.

EBA Provided the Following Services:

• Evaluation and conceptual design for alternative systems for the control of off-site landfill gas migration.
• Performed field pilot testing using horizontal trenches to assess perimeter monitoring probes.
• Provided construction management for the landfill gas monitoring and control system.
• Designed a continuous monitoring system for on-site structures.
• Documented and coordinated the Authority to Construct permitting through the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District.

EBA maintains and operates a laboratory that is equipped for the testing of soil, rock, aggregates, hot mix asphalt, portland cement concrete, mortar, brick, and concrete masonry units. The laboratory has been accredited by AASHTO since 1993. The AASHTO accreditation program involves regular reviews and inspections of the laboratory by the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) and the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) as well as a proficiency sample program to monitor the quality of the test results. Describe the past, understand the present, predict the future

Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic: The Response of Life to Change or EBA is an international, multidisciplinary programme that has been approved by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) for 2006 - 2013.

This programme combines the research communities and aims of the past SCAR programmes of RiSCC, EVOLANTA and EASIZ.

EBA seeks to:

1. Understand the evolution and diversity of life in the Antarctic;
2. Determine how these have influenced the properties and dynamics of present Antarctic ecosystems and the Southern Ocean system;
3. Make predictions on how organisms and communities are responding and will respond to current and future environmental change; and
4. Identify EBA science outcomes that are relevant to conservation policy and communicate this science via the SCAR Antarctic Treaty System Committee.

EBA aims to facilitate collaboration between key researchers from other disciplines through workshops and conferences and maximize international and multidisciplinary involvement. By integrating research in marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems in a manner never before attempted, EBA hopes to advance evolutionary and ecological science globally using model systems and organisms from the Antarctic.
Under the SCAR umbrella, EBA is the flagship scientific research programme of SCAR's Standing Scientific Group on the Life Sciences. As well as several other active SCAR programmes, EBA incorporates the Census on Antarctic Marine Life (CAML), the Southern Ocean Continuous Plankton Recorder Survey (SO-CPR), SCAR-MarBIN, the Expert Group on Birds and Marine Mammals, and SCAR services like the Antarctic Biodiversity Database. All of these contribute in one way or another to EBA.
The EBA team is also working closely with the SCAR scientific research programme on Antarctica and the Global Climate System (AGCS) to produce a book length review on "Antarctic Climate Change and the Environment" (ACCE), which is intended to be an equivalent of the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment.
EBA will provide biological information of interest and use to Treaty Parties, including the activities of the Committee on Environmental Protection (CEP) and the Commission on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). From time to time papers on EBA results and implications will be forwarded to the meetings of the CEP and CCAMLR as appropriate. As do all SCAR programmes, EBA stands ready to listen to the needs of other groups with interests in both marine and terresterial biology.
