Denial

Whenever I sin, I always rationalize my actions just long enough to commit whatever scandalous deed I falter on only to have the guilt and shame set in almost immediately. I wonder if that's how St. Peter did it. I wonder if he rationalized his denial of Christ in some way?

Isn't that essentially what Sin is? Just a rationalization that our actions are really OK because of some silly and foolish reason? It is the deception that gets us, but it is the denial that makes it worse. Not only do we steal the cookie from the jar but we then have to lie about it, don't we?

It is a good thing God's love and mercy are so encompassing. It is a good thing that we are given second third fourth so many chances to come back to God. I know I need a lot!

Pray for sinners. Pray for the dead.
