The job market is totally different compared to just a few short years ago. Back then if you were qualified you could go from one job straight into another, no problem.
Nowadays people are doing jobs who are over-qualified because they have to take what they can find but this isn't what they studied so hard for to do.
Why spend all that money time and effort getting qualified only to have to settle for something you really don't want and doesn't pay enough? Or have you just accepted the story of that's how it is and nothing can be done?
Something can be done and it starts by thinking about your qualifications and skills in a different way. Whether you have a list of degrees or you may have become a qualified mechanic you won't ever get the best from your skills if all you do is offer them to an employer.
Was getting your qualification easy? You done it to get a better standard of living for you and your family so why keep selling yourself short and competing against every other job seeker and making life hard for yourself?
When you work for someone else you basically are limiting what you can earn and giving the employer permission to do it! You both agree to work for a certain amount of money per hour so you do all the work while the employer makes the profits!
Getting paid what your skills are worth does take a little more work but the rewards are definitely worth it. The job market doesn't look like it's going to change for a good while does it? So what alternative do you have? Wait until it gets better or take action and do something about it yourself?
The 'work' side of things isn't difficult but it might be something that you're not used to. The majority of people don't like change, they like the comfort zone, but in times like these you do have to have a plan B.
Take for example selling a car. You go to the dealer see a car you want but you want to trade you're old one in. The dealer normally offers you way below the value its worth but because its makes the deal easier a lot of people go along with it. But if you wanted to get more money all it takes is advertising your car and before long its sold especially if you ask for a little above what the dealer was offering.
But a lot of people can't be bothered with all that. They just want to drive in and drive out no hassle. So you save time but not money. The choice is yours.
Same with our careers. You can 'tweak' your qualifications to make them more valuable to you rather than giving them to an employer and get paid what they think you're worth. Makes sense?
All it takes is 'repackaging' your skills. Putting the same skills you have in a way that will be more appealing to others.
