How to Jumpstart Your Business and Get New Clients After a Move

In the US, it is common for folks to move about every 5 years. That's been my personal experience over the last 20 years of my life. But when you're an entrepreneur, it's important to have a clear plan of action to jump-start your business and get new clients pretty quickly after you relocate.
Even if you are not relocating, these 4 tips may just turn up the volume on getting more clients and business revenue.
1) Get New Clients By Connecting Virtually
In the new world of social media, you're only a few clicks away from friends and followers who live in the same state or country you're moving to. So before you move, do a quick search for who lives in your new city. You can make new connections before you arrive and also get tips for where and how to get connected when you're there.
You can send them a quick note to ask what groups they belong in their area to so you can begin to check out those groups to see what would be a good fit for you.
If you already have a list of subscribers or other connections, this is a great opportunity to reach out via email or phone calls just to ask for some suggestions on how to get connected in your new location. Folks love to give advice and they would be more than happy to help you connect.
2) Get New Clients By Connecting Physically
Networking can be a huge waste of time if not done effectively, but it can also be a rich source of great partnerships, connections and a path to getting known pretty quickly. Before you get to your new location, do a quickly Google search for the type of group that would be a fit for you. For example, if you're looking for groups of business women, you can do a search for "networking groups women" or "business women groups" etc.
Set aside some time to do a little research then start calling around to the organizers of those groups to get connected, find out more and visit a few groups when you get there. Many groups allow you to visit 2 or 3 times before you join.
Added tip: Don't just show up to these groups, find out if they need help on the leadership team for great visibility and a mutually rewarding opportunity.
In-person meetings can one of the fastest paths to getting your business known, but you do need to be quite intentional about your efforts to be sure that it's time well spent. And by the way, if you're already connected to an association or group in your current location asking your leadership to connect you with someone in your new location would be a great idea as well.
3) Get New Clients By Connecting with Past Clients
Past clients can be a rich source of future leads. First, you can just ask them what groups they belong to and research whether those groups exist in your new location. Second, you can just ask if they know others you can connect with in your new location.
You may just be surprised at how many connections you can quickly make just by making a few phone calls to past clients to ask for their help. If they loved working with you, chances are they'll love sharing potential connections with you as well.
This is not a call to ask for business in your new location - that can be done as well, but this is more focused on asking for new connections in your new location.
4) Get New Clients By Snail Mail
Gasp! Did I just mention snail mail in this modern age of amazing technology?! As in... using stamps and actual paper?! Yes indeed I did. The vast majority of business owners fail at direct mail due to not knowing the secrets to executing it well, which is why the very notion of direct mail is scary to most.
However, you may just be amazed at what a few post-cards to a highly targeted list of prospects can do. As a starter, check out the books The Ultimate Sales Letter and also The Ultimate Marketing Plan by Dan Kennedy and get familiar with your direct mail options and strategies. A few hundred well-constructed postcards to a highly targeted list can do wonders for your business arrival in your new location.
