Most of us today have not yet woken up to the idea that the world has become a global village. A village is a small group of dwellings in a rural area, usually ranking in size between a hamlet and a town or better still, a community smaller in population than a town.
The global village represents the whole world, as a village, considered as being closely connected by modern telecommunications and as being mutually dependent economically, socially, and politically.
In a traditional village community, almost everybody knows everybody, you can easily carry out your business (the occupation, work, or trade in which a person is engaged) activities. It is relatively easier to market, let's say your retail business or whatever you consider your business, conclusively it is easier to run a business within a village community for obvious reasons. The most important aspect of running your business within a village community is the fact that you have easy access to such a community and can easily market yourself, since it's easy to know almost everybody.
The world at large is now considered to be a global village, a term coined by Marshall McLuhan who envisioned the world interconnected via electronic communications some few decades ago. It's been widely accepted as a fact by almost all of us in this phase of life and at this present era, its a common believe that the world is a global village. Ask a boy in the America of the sixties and he would not be able to envision a world where he can confidently sit in his room and interact with the world as though it were a village. These days, everybody knows that is possible with all the technology available to people of the present age.
This ushers in a new era in business. It is a fact but most people don't know it yet. The world is now as a village and within this global village community, which I prefer to call the global village community, you can effectively run your business with access to the entire global population, estimated to be over 6.5 billion individuals, as your potential clients.
