The Faculty Student and Academic Services Office aims to enhance the student experience at Victoria by providing support to students in an accessible and timely manner. The services provided to students relate to enrolment, degree planning, credit transfer, approval of exchange programmes, examinations (including aegrotat applications), graduation and general enquiries.
All Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences students are encouraged to take advantage of our services in whatever area they may need assistance and or advice. The Student and Academic Services Office works closely with Student Support Services (such as Student Health, the Counselling Service and the Māori and Pacific Support Coordinators) and Victoria International to ensure that our students have access to and are encouraged to utilise the array of available support services at Victoria.
The team also provides Faculty staff with academic administration services, including advice on drafting proposals to change courses, qualifications and major requirements, etc., compilation and compliance checking of all Faculty publications and the Faculty's sections in centrally-produced publications, maintenance of the Faculty website, executive assistance to the Faculty Academic Committee and the Faculty Board, compliance checking of all course outlines and numerous other academic administration tasks.
The main thing to remember is that if you started your BA before 2010, you are allowed to complete your degree under the old regulations, as long as you do so by 2014. Current students may also be able to complete under the new 2010 regulations. Note: You cannot mix and match between old and new regulations; you must complete under one set of degree/major requirements as specified in the statute for that year.
In 2010 most BA courses became 20 points at 100, 200 and 300 level. Please note that the points changes apply to any courses taken from 2010 onwards, even if you choose to complete your degree and major requirements under an older statute. The points for courses you have already passed will remain as they are.
See the self-audit sheets on the Forms page for more information on specific requirements under old and new regulations. Click on the links below for examples of self-audits. The example of a BA in English Literature (ENGL) and Media Studies (MDIA) shows two majors taught within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS). The example of a BA in Political Science (POLS) and Psychology (PSYC) shows one major taught within FHSS and one listed BA major taught within another faculty.
