UTS in Sydney NSW Australia offer specialist part-time and full-time accounting degree programs and accounting courses that are eligible for FEE-HELP and are accredited by ICAA, CPA Australia and NIA. Also our MBA offers over 30 majors & sub-majors in accounting, accounting and finance, professional accounting and SAP-ERP accounting information systems.

The specialised (MPA) Master of Professional Accounting degree program provides non-accounting graduates with internationally recognised qualifications that are CPA Australia, ICAA and NIA accredited.

The specialised (MBus) Master of Business in Accounting Information Systems degree program prepares students for certification with SAP and enterprise resource planning (ERP) accounting information systems.

The (MBA) Master of Business Administration degree program provides a comprehensive business education with choice of over 30 majors and sub-majors. Master of Professional Accounting Extended

The Master of Professional Accounting Extended is designed to provide non-accounting graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge required for a career in professional accounting. The completion of the course satisfies the academic requirements for entry to the professional programs of CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA).

The Master of Professional Accounting Extended provides the ideal academic foundation to pursue a career in accounting. The course provides the necessary knowledge, understanding and expertise necessary for employment in the accounting profession. Students are also able to study a suite of business communication subjects in this two-year degree that are designed to enhance students' English language skills in the business environment.

Course aims

The course aims to provide local and international graduates with the requisite knowledge in accounting and the role accounting plays in providing information products supporting all areas of business activity. In addition to providing a professionally recognised qualification, the course comprises a mix of accounting, finance, legal, communication and economics subjects that collectively provide a range of essential business skills and knowledge that are necessary for employment in today's dynamic business environment.
The communication subjects enhance the English language skills of non-accounting graduates who want professional accreditation so as to improve their prospects of gaining accounting employment.

Career options

Entry requirements

UTS Rule: Applicants must have completed a recognised Australian bachelor's degree in a related field of study, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
The equivalent qualification required is a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Applicants with a relevant graduate certificate must have completed it with at least at credit average.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 575 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 90 overall with a writing score of 21; or DEEP: C; or PTE: 61
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Recognition of prior learning

Students may be granted a maximum of eight subject exemptions based on recognition of prior learning, of which four core subjects may be approved from prior undergraduate study. For more information see recognition of prior learning.

The Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting is a four-subject introductory course designed to provide a general understanding of accounting and related areas of business study. It provides foundation knowledge in the areas of accounting, finance, economics and law.

Why study this course

This course is designed for students who:
  • do not have an undergraduate background in accounting and who wish to further their business knowledge, or
  • have extensive business experience but lack the formal qualifications for direct entry to the master's programs in professional accounting, or
  • want to complete an introductory course in accounting and related fields and want to prove their ability to undertake postgraduate study and attain postgraduate qualifications.
As this course articulates into the master's programs in professional accounting, this enables students who do not possess formal undergraduate qualifications, including TAFE diplomats, to acquire the relevant academic qualification for membership of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and the National Institute of Accountants (NIA).

The equivalent qualification required is a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Applicants without a degree require eight years' full-time relevant work experience and evidence of a general capacity to undertake tertiary education.
