One Year Away: The New Roman Missal

One year from today we will finally implement the new translation of the Roman Missal. There is obviously a lot of discussion, training, education, commentary, and even complaining that will take place between now and then. Yet, the fact remains that this is the final time we go through an entire liturgical year with the Mass & Missal the way that it is.

The big questions that face all of us are how our individual parishes and priests will go through the process of education and Catechesis on the new translation. There has been a lot of talk by detractors about how difficult and unsettling this transition will be. Truth is, the Mass itself isn't really changing. What is changing is the depth and accuracy of the prayers and words said during the Mass. This should be seen as a good thing, and embraced by all. Unfortunately, this will not be the case.

Many Catholics will unfortunately face priests, chanceries, and even Bishops that oppose this change. The first thing we must do is pray. The second thing we must do is to be ardent defenders of Holy Mother Church and the Holy Father. We must find proper ways, according to protocol and etiquette, in which to ensure smooth transition and strong Catechesis on the new translation. Anything else is an abrogation of our duty as Catholics to uphold the Faith.
